Indicted Dossier Source Given Cover by FBI and DOJ

The indictment of Igor Danchenko by John Durham has created a massive problem for the FBI and the DOJ.

It is alleged that Danchenko repeatedly lied to investigators regarding the Steele dossier

The discrepancies those lies created largely debunked the Steele dossier, only the FBI continued to use the dossier to go after the Trump campaign.

Point being, this indictment could have far-reaching implications we had not considered before.

Who Is Accountable?

The Igor Danchenko indictment should not stop at Danchenko.

If we assume the lies are proven, it leads us down a path that possibly implicates all the powers that be in the FBI and DOJ at the time.

This could have bread crumbs that eventually lead to James Comey, the former Director of the FBI and other top FBI officials.

It could even drip into the top rankings of the DOJ.

Durham’s indictment shows that the FBI was clearly aware of the problems, yet it continued to defend the dossier well after the fact.

For instance, in 2018, a full year after Danchenko had lied, then-Assistant Attorney General John Demers told Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court Judge Rosemary Collyer that Danchenko had been “truthful and cooperative.”

Demers also told the FISA court, “The Government submits that the applications, read in light go this additional information, contain sufficient predication for the Court to have found probable cause that the target was an agent of a foreign power.”

He continued, “Even considering the additional information regarding Papadopoulos’ conversations with Source #2 [Halper] and others, and regarding Source #1 [Steele], the applications contained sufficient predication for the Court to have found probable cause that Page was acting as an agent of the Government of Russia.

“The FBI has reviewed this letter and confirmed its factual accuracy.”

Keep in mind, there are FBI notes from 2017 that state that Danchenko “did not know the origins” regarding some of the information in the Steele dossier.

He also admitted that he had passed along “hearsay” that was used in the dossier.

Point is, the FBI knew this when it petitioned the FISA court.

So, either the powers that be were complicit or they were incompetent, either way, they must be held accountable.
